Signing In & Out Policy:

When dropping off and picking up your child from the Playhouse parents are required to sign them in and out each and every time. Parents are required to sign their full legal name.

Parents should provide the names of at least two adults other than the parent or guardian who have their permission to pick up the child in case of an emergency. This authorization is provided in the enrollment packet and should be periodically updated. The Playhouse will ask for a photo ID before releasing the child to someone other than his/her custodial parent or guardian. If someone is going to be picking up your child who is not in our file as having permission to do so, prior written authorization must be given to the Playhouse office. If written authorization has not been received, your child will not be released. No exceptions will be made.

Guidance & Discipline Policies:

Our goal is to provide a safe place for all the children to enjoy and feel protected. When a problem occurs, we will offer alternatives to children engaged in undesirable behavior by presenting a different toy, suggesting a new activity, engaging the child in an activity with a teacher or another child, or encouraging independent play.

Teachers will explain inappropriate behavior and role model an appropriate way to handle the situation. The teacher will try to help your child understand the logical consequence of his/her action by explaining and removing the object or activity he/she was engaged in.

Sometimes it might be necessary for the child to take a break. If the teacher deems this is appropriate, the child would be separated from the group to allow him/her time to gain control over his/her actions. The child may return to the group once the inappropriate and/or aggressive behavior stops or is significantly reduced. The child will be supervised while taking his/her break.

All of the children will be free from actions of a punitive nature that include corporal and/or unusual punishment, infliction of pain, humiliation, intimidation, ridicule, coercion, physical threats and mental abuse. These types of actions will not be permitted and would be grounds for immediate dismissal.

If a parent or teacher has a particular concern about a child’s behavior a parent-teacher conference will be scheduled. If behavior issues where other children are being seriously harmed, such as biting, scratching, etc., are unable to be resolved after three such conferences then a one-week notice could be given.

Illness & Medication Policies:

The staff at Nana’s Playhouse & Learning Center intends to be particularly diligent when dealing with the following health policies for the benefit of both our student and staff population:

State law requires that ill children be excluded from childcare. Some of the symptoms we will look for include:

  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Colored Mucus

Any child exhibiting these symptoms will be excluded from the Playhouse and considered contagious unless otherwise notified by the child’s doctor. A child who has been sent home from the Playhouse needs to be free of these symptoms for a minimum of 24 hours before returning. No exceptions will be made. If we call you to pick up your child due to illness, you need to do so within one hour.

We would like to thank the parents in advance for adhering to these policies and for helping us maintain a healthy Playhouse. We sincerely have your child’s best interest at heart!
